Monika and Lecia reveal their true identities to Baragona. When he finds out Lecia is Walfrid's daughter, Baragona is reminded of how their good friend, Gran's father, taught him to fight. He beckons Gran to experience the true form of his swordsmanship. Accepting his request, the crew prepares to take on the Scarlet Knight with all their strength.
Monika
Scarlet Knight, I apologize for my behavior earlier.
Monika
My name is Monika and I serve as the deputy of the Fourth Fleet of the Crew of Enforcers.
Monika
We do not currently have a captain of the Fourth Fleet, so you may consider me our representative.
Monika
This is Lecia, and I suppose you're already acquainted with Gran and the crew.
Baragona
Indeed. But, more importantly, aren't you Lecia, the daughter of the Blue Knight?
Lecia
Y-yes, but how did you know that?
Baragona does not answer her. He only lowers his head into a deep bow.
Vyrn
Huh? What are you doing?
Baragona
And I suppose, you came all the way to the Dydroit Belt to meet your father?
Lecia
Yes. I heard that he'd finally be returning to the Phantagrande Skydom.
Baragona explains that Walfrid has met some trouble while in Nalhegrande Skydom.
Baragona
And so, as a Luminary Knight, I'll be handling his duties in his stead.
Baragona
He may not be coming to this skydom for quite some time.
Baragona
My apologies. It would seem I've disrupted your father-daughter reunion.
Monika
I see. So that's where he's been.
Lecia
My father... He's not hurt, right?
Baragona
Of course not. He's just tending to some duties in Nalhegrande Skydom.
Lecia
I see. Well, as long as he's all right...
Although unable to reunite with him as she'd hoped, Lecia still feels a sense of relief.
She nervously poses a question to Baragona.
Lecia
If you're the Scarlet Knight, have you met my father?
Lecia
It seems you recognized me easily as his daughter.
Vyrn
Since you're both Luminary Knights, you'd kinda think you'd have met before.
Lecia
Y-yeah. That makes sense.
Baragona
Well, in fact, I knew him before he became a Luminary Knight.
Baragona
By the way, why are you and your crew here in the Dydroit Belt, Gran?
Katalina
Hmm? Oh, it's a long story...
Katalina tells of their showdown with the empire, their search for the map pieces, and the truth about Vyrn and Lyria's origins.
Baragona
Ho ho... I see. And you're finally ready?
Vyrn
When you say it like that, it stings a little!
Baragona
Ah, I see. I get it. But, if that's the case...
Baragona looks knowingly at Rosetta.
Rosetta
I suppose it will be fine. After all, they've learned much more since we first met in Lumacie.
Rosetta
Much more. Even about him.
Io
Huh? Hey, what are you talking about? Who?
Baragona
I wonder, could I have a bit of your time?
Baragona
If you wish to know the truth about Lyria and Vyrn, there's no harm in having a listen.
Vyrn
...
Lyria
The truth about us?
With a solemn face, Baragona begins to speak of his past.
Baragona
I had a pretty troubled childhood, you see.
Baragona
There was in-fighting among my family, and we children were regularly threatened.
Baragona
Then one day, I met a man who was hired to guard me.
Baragona
He was a young captain of a renowned crew of skyfarers. That man was your father, Gran.
Vyrn
What!
Baragona
Even though he was hired to protect me, he spoke to me no differently than his own friends.
Baragona
And Walfrid, another young member of his crew, kept a constant scowl on his face.
Lecia
Father...
Baragona
The captain taught me to use a sword. He had undeniable strength, and was blessed with more talent than technique.
Baragona
Regardless, I would copy his moves, ask him to teach me, and even spar with him, eventually improving myself.
Baragona
Some time passed. I was appointed the Scarlet Knight and given duties to fulfill on Lumacie.
Baragona
One day, he appeared before me. And he had a message.
Baragona
He said that someday, I may cross paths with his child.
Baragona
And if his child is joined by a blue-haired young girl named Lyria...
Baragona
...then a harsh fate awaits them. He asked me to test their strength.
Rackam
You mean, when you challenged us, it was just a part of Gran's father's plan?
Baragona
He said if you showed no sign of promise, then I should separate the two of you.
Baragona
That's why I had you fight me when we first met on Lumacie.
Io
So that's why you wanted to battle!
Baragona
You two brilliantly displayed more strength than I had imagined.
Baragona
And now we cross paths once again, and you're more powerful than ever.
Baragona
So, do you mind if we spar again here and now?
Katalina
So... Is this another test from Gran's father?
Baragona
Not at all. It's just a matter of personal interest.
Eugen
Oy oy, you've got some unusual interests, buddy.
The Scarlet Knight Baragona takes a deep breath and readies his sword.
Baragona
Wouldn't you like to see firsthand your father's sword techniques?
Katalina
In fact, if he really was instructed by Gran's father, his swordsmanship should be nearly identical.
Io
Why not try it? I say this time we show him just how strong we've become!
Eugen
Ha ha ha! Indeed, I'm sure we were disappointing back then, when we were no match for him.
Eugen
But this could be good timing for a rematch, considering what we went through to get here.
Rackam
Yeah. We've survived countless crises since then.
Rosetta
It's true that we've seen a lot until now, but it means we've overcome a lot as well.
Lecia
I'm a bit interested as well. I'd like to learn about Gran's father, my father's rival.
Lecia
I'm curious to see the sort of swordsmanship he taught the Scarlet Knight.
Vyrn
We'll see just how close we've gotten to his strength!
Lyria
Let's give it all we've got and show him just how far we've come!
Gran and company cross blades with Baragona. Pleased with their strength, Baragona gives them his regards and says he must return to his duties. Knowing they won't be able to meet the Blue Knight here, the crew decides to head to Amalthea. The next morning, however, some of the crew don't show at breakfast. When they go to awaken them, they find Rackam with no memory of Gran or the rest of the crew.
Gran and company face-off against the Scarlet Knight Baragona, one of the Luminary Knights.
Using teamwork, the crew diverts Baragona's guard and Gran strikes him at full power.
Baragona
Hargh!
Baragona
Whew... Well, that was impressive.
Eugen
Tch... That wasn't bad, but we still can't hold a candle to you.
Baragona seems pleased as he sheathes his blade.
Baragona
I wouldn't say that. You're growing so powerful that you'll catch up to him in no time.
Baragona
But, of course, he was always much stronger by himself.
Katalina
So, you're saying we're only a match for Gran's father if we fight him as a team?
Io
Hey! Isn't that kind of unfair?
Rosetta
That's what everyone said about him, too! That he's unfair and rash.
Lyria
But if we can't win alone, we'll just have to get stronger together!
Vyrn
Yep! That's our strategy!
Baragona
Then I look forward to seeing you again.
With a satisfied grin, Baragona waves his cloak.
Baragona
Well, I've got duties to attend, so I shall take my leave.
Baragona
As one who learned to wield a blade from your father, Gran, I look forward to seeing your progress.
And with that, Baragona disappears into the distance.
Monika
Good grief. We got a little more than we bargained for there.
Monika
After hearing his story, I can't help but be curious.
Monika
Gran, who are you?
Vyrn
Maybe, we're all on this journey to find out just that!
Lyria
Ah, it's back!
Katalina
What's wrong, Lyria?
Lyria
I sensed a primal beast again, but only for a moment. I don't understand...
Io
Now that you mention it, all that noise and trembling was from those two knights, wasn't it?
Io
Then, if there aren't any primal beasts, what does Lyria keep sensing?
The crew grows silent, unable to come up with a clear answer.
Heading back to the city, they decide to depart the next morning for Amalthea Island to see the archives.
Later that night...
Unseen in the dark, a knight glares out at the rocky island chain.
Golden Knight
There's no mistaking it.
Golden Knight
This... is going to get ugly.
Her murmurs go unheard as they fade into the fog of the night.
Morning has come, so Gran and company prepare to leave the station.
Vyrn
Huh? Is this everybody?
Vyrn seems puzzled as he looks around the room at the crew.
Lyria
Everyone worked so hard yesterday. Maybe some of them are still asleep?
Rosetta
Well, we did have our own rooms for once. They might still be in there sleeping like logs.
But even at breakfast, Katalina, Io, Lecia, Rackam, and Eugen have yet to appear.
Vyrn
All right! Let's go wake 'em up!
Gran, Vyrn, Lyria, and Rosetta split up to go and wake the others.
Vyrn
Hey! Wake up, Rackam! How long you plan to sleep in?
Rackam
Hmmm? Keep it down...
Rackam rubs his eyes and shakes his head as he sits up.
Rackam
Good grief... What do you want so early?
Rackam fixes his gaze on Gran and Vyrn. He furrows his brows.
Rackam
Who... are you?
A look of confusion is written all over Gran's face.
But this is only the beginning of a series of curious incidents to come.
