The sage Zeyen refuses to help Idelva or Gran, going so far as to forbid Io from leaving because she is too valuable to his cause. He does, however, decide to give Gran and company a challenge to be tackled at a later date. On the way back to the Idelva battleship, Vyrn catches a glimpse of the Grandcypher flying by.

Welcome, travelers. You've come quite the distance...
Zeyen
My name is Zeyen, and I am the elder of Kluger Island.
Vyrn
Hm? But I thought Zeyen was the name of a faith or something...
Katalina
Zeyen? I feel like I've heard that name before...
Katalina
In fact, I think it's the name of a faith in Phantagrande.
Zeyen
Oh? So you know of the Zeyen faith... Or rather, it is the Zeyen name that is more recognizable than the faith itself.
Dialogue Option
Do you practice that Zeyen faith?
Zeyen
No, I do not. But I cannot say I have no connection to the Zeyen faith whatsoever.
Zeyen
Indeed, we have a... distant relationship.
Dialogue Option
Is this an island for those Zeyens?
Zeyen
No... What is taught here is different from that Zeyen doctrine.
Zeyen
But I cannot say that it has no connection whatsoever.
Zeyen
Zeyen is the name inherited by each person who becomes the elder of the island. I am the eighteenth in this lineage.
Zeyen
It is said that the founder of the Zeyen faith practiced here several centuries ago.
Zeyen
The teachings passed down to us are not only difficult to comprehend but vague in description.
Zeyen
Furthermore... the elders who shall inherit the Zeyen name must face perilous trials to practice the innermost teachings.
Zeyen
As such, we have never considered spreading these teachings to others...
Zeyen
But it seems the founder added independent interpretations to the teachings, attempting to popularize the faith among the masses.
Zeyen
In the end it evolved into something far different from our orthodox and sometimes arduous practices.
Zeyen
I hear now that most anyone can walk the Zeyen path, and that as a faith, it has reached many people.
Katalina
So what you're saying is that what's practiced on this island is sort of an ancestor to the Zeyen faith practiced elsewhere...
Zeyen
I've no qualms if you perceive it as such. But as many ages have passed, the relationship is hardly recognizable.
The visitors grow quiet as this new connection settles in their minds.
Zeyen
But it seems I've rambled a bit. As the elder of this island, allow me to welcome you.
Cain
Much obliged... but are you sure you want to do that? You know we're an envoy from Idelva, right?
Zeyen
Of course. But uninvited guests are ones who appear in the dead of night.
Zeyen
Yet you approach in the light of day. A small detail, but a significant one nonetheless.
Zeyen
And you have come here to request our cooperation with Idelva, I suppose?
Dialogue Option
That's not all...
Zeyen
Oh, you are Io's friends? I understand you have faced many hardships on your journey here.
Lyria
Well, you're the Omniscient Sage, right?
Zeyen
There are those who call me such. But like the Zeyen name, it is a title I have inherited.
Lyria
You see, we're separated from our friends right now.
Lyria
We've been slowly coming together, especially since finding Io on this island...
Lyria
But there are still others who are lost, and we have no clue where they are.
Lyria
So is there any way you could use your power to help us search for them?
Zeyen sighs as if deeply considering the matter.
After staring blankly into the distance, he turns his gaze back to the others.
Zeyen
I shall be frank. I cannot cooperate with your request or that of Idelva.
Zeyen
Furthermore, I regret to tell you that I cannot allow you to take Io away.
Io
Huh? But why? Mentor, why would you say that?
Dialogue Option
Io is our friend!
Zeyen
I am well aware. But we have something we must keep protected.
Dialogue Option
You can't have Io!
Zeyen
I will not ask you to yield. But please think of this as a necessary protocol.
Cain
Could you tell us why at least?
Zeyen
It is because of our legacy and the very teachings of this island.
Zeyen
Tell me, soldier... Is it your true goal to learn our innermost teachings?
Zeyen
Teachings on the means by which we control primal beast power?
Cain
That's not the only goal, but I can't deny that it's one of them.
Zeyen then turns to Lyria.
Zeyen
You, young girl, can sense primals beasts, yes?
Zeyen
Then tell me.
Do you sense a primal in this room?
Lyria
...!
I... Well...
Hesitant to speak, Lyria looks up at Gran.
Dialogue Option
What's wrong?
Lyria
It's just... so unbelievable...
Dialogue Option
You okay?
Lyria
Yes, but... I've never...
Lyria
You see... I sense a primal beast within the sage.
Lyria
Or rather, the sage seems like a primal, but not at all like one...
Katalina
What does this mean?
Zeyen
Mmm... I've never witnessed power such as yours. It is quite astonishing.
Zeyen
But what you're sensing is not as rare as you think.
Zeyen
Through persistent training and supreme enlightenment from the teachings, anyone can reach this level of existence.
Zeyen
Consequently, we cannot readily allow others to leave the island once they have learned about our ways.
Zeyen
Although our aim is to pass down these teachings, we do not wish to spread them.
Zeyen turns to meet Io's gaze.
Zeyen
And whether it is a blessing or a burden, Io has a gift.
Zeyen
Not only does she have it, you could say that she's nearing enlightenment.
Zeyen
It would be unfortunate to lose someone with such excellent potential.
Zeyen
Besides, Io has learned far too much about our teachings for us to allow her departure.
Zeyen
Finally, as a seer of the future, I know that we must not allow her to leave at present.
Io
Mentor...
Reinhardtzar
All right, we get it. But do you think we're just gonna back off because you said no?
Leona
Zeyen, won't you please find a way to allow Io to leave with her crew?
Dialogue Option
Please!
Gran pleads to Zeyen with fingers clasped.
Zeyen
Then I shall have you prove to me whether you can be trusted with our knowledge.
Vyrn
Heheh! That's what I'm talkin' about! Right, Gran?
Dialogue Option
We've got this!
Katalina
Well, when you think about it, we do seem to get challenged a lot...
Dialogue Option
We're on it!
Lyria
Right! We'll do whatever we can to get Io back!
Zeyen
Then it is settled. But I shall have you withdraw for today.
Vyrn
What! Why's that?
Zeyen
The timing is important. And now is not the time to test you.
Zeyen
And if Io is to leave the island, there are things I must tell her before she goes.
After saying their goodbyes, Gran and the crew set off for the Idelva battleship anchored nearby.
But on the way back to the ship, Vyrn glimpses something that makes him do a double take.
...
Vyrn
Hm?
Lyria
What is it, Vyrn?
Vyrn
Is it me, or did the Grandcypher fly by just now?
Dialogue Option
I saw it too!
Vyrn
I knew it! My eyes weren't playing tricks on me, were they?
Reinhardtzar
I'm not sure about that. Your airship's still in Phantagrande, right?
Lyria
Yes. At least it should be...
Dialogue Option
I didn't see anything!
Vyrn
Really? I guess my eyes are playing tricks on me...
Leona
It's gotten quite dark out here. Maybe it was a bird or something that flew by.
Katalina
The Grandcypher's been on our minds a lot today...
Katalina
I guess it's tugging on us from somewhere deep down inside.
Katalina
We have to consider how we'll get back both our crew and the Grandcypher.
Vyrn
Yeah...
Gloomy at the thought of the journey ahead, the crew speaks no more of the silhouette that flashed across the sky.
They all arrive back at the battleship to turn in for the evening.
