Rosetta warns the crew that they need to release Yggdrasil from the influence of the dark essence before it's too late.

With Rosetta safely back among their ranks, the crew have begun planning how they'll fight against Malice.

Rosetta

Since my powers are sealed, it won't be long now before Yggdrasil starts to go berserk.

Rosetta

Before that happens, we need to find a way to release the overflowing power that's consuming her.

Katalina

Wasn't the dark essence overpowering her core?

Rosetta

Right. That's why we need to get to her core as soon as possible. I can sense it lying dormant on this island.

Rosetta

But there is a forest between us and it, and it will want to protect its master with all its might.

Rosetta

I'll take you to her core. But tread carefully—things are only going to get worse from here.

Lyria asks Rosetta about her connection with Yggdrasil. Rosetta answers that they're similar in nature.

Lyria

Um, Rosetta... There's something I've been meaning to ask you for a while...

Rosetta

Oh? What is it?

Lyria

Both you and Yggdrasil are forest primal beasts, aren't you? Does that make you family?

Rosetta

Family... Haha. I like the sound of that.

Rosetta

Unfortunately we're not related by blood, but I suppose we're not far from family.

Rosetta

Perhaps it's better to think of us as a flower and thorns.

Orchis

Flower? Thorns? Which are you?

Rosetta

Hmm... I guess I have to admit I'm the thorns.

Rosetta

Even so, there's a reason I want to protect her—to save her—beyond mere family ties.

Lyria

Another reason?

Rosetta

Yes... Ah, forget about it for now. It's a secret between me and her.

Rosetta

(I still remember... That man didn't even lift a finger, but I couldn't beat him...)

Rosetta

(But I'm stronger now. I'll save you, Yggdrasil. Just hang in there.)

Rosetta can't shake the feeling that she's met Lecia before. When it's revealed that Lecia is the daughter of the Blue Knight, Walfrid, Rosetta's surprise is palpable.

Rosetta

You've been rather quiet for a while now...

Lecia

Who, me? Eh-heh...

Lecia

Well, guess I just got lost in thought for a little bit there.

Rosetta

Hehe. It's fine. No reason to be that tense around me.

Rosetta

You're Lecia from the Crew of Enforcers, right? How did you end up with Gran's crew?

Lecia

Hmm... Where to start...

Lecia recounts to Rosetta how she found herself aboard the Grandcypher.

Lecia

And that's how I ended up with these guys. Hard to believe it myself, but...

Rosetta

That was quite the story... But I feel like there's something else about you...

Vyrn

What's wrong, Rosetta? You look like somethin's botherin' you!

Rosetta

No, just something on my mind. I can't shake the feeling that I've met Lecia somewhere before...

Lecia

R-really? I'm sorry, but I don't remember if we did...

Rosetta

Well, maybe you just look like someone I've met, or maybe I'm still exhausted.

I know, I know! Maybe you think you recognize Lecia because you've met her dad?

Lecia

My father?

Why not? After all, Vyrn must've met him back then too.

Vyrn

Um... I guess, but it's not like I know that for sure or anything...

See! Lecia's dad really gets around!

Lecia

Well, it is true that his work takes him to islands all over the skydoms...

Rosetta

Consider my interest piqued. So who is your father?

Lecia

My father is the Blue Knight, Walfrid.

Rosetta

Wait...

Rosetta

Walfrid! The Walfrid? You're joking, surely?

Lecia

No... I promise you, Walfrid really is my father.

Rackam

What's shakin' over here? Rosetta looks like she's seen a ghost. First time I've ever seen her like that.

Eugen

Anyway, Rosetta, the road splits into two up ahead, so which—

Eugen

Rosetta? Anybody in there?

Rosetta

Huh? Oh... I'm fine. This way. Follow me.

Rosetta reveals that she once traveled in a crew with Gran's father, Walfrid, and Vyrn. Lacking any recollection of those events, Vyrn is utterly shocked by the news.

Rosetta

Yes... It has to be like that... If Gran's here, then it's not so strange...

Katalina

Rosetta, you're talking to yourself. Are you sure you're all right?

Rosetta

I'm fine. I was just a little shocked. That's all.

Rosetta

Gran, if you don't mind me asking...

Rosetta

I don't suppose you let Lecia into your crew because of who her father is, did you?

What do you mean?

Rosetta

Ah, so that's not what you had in mind after all.

Dialogue Option

It was Monika who asked me.

Rosetta

Monika? Oh, that short girl from the Crew of Enforcers?

Rosetta

Which means that you weren't the one who asked Lecia to join you...

Vyrn

Rosetta, just what are you gettin' at?

Rosetta

Um, well... Wait, I understand now. It seems that none of you know yet.

Vyrn

What're we supposed to know about?

Rosetta

Maybe it's all right to tell you now... Considering Vyrn's had his power returned, you'll find out eventually anyway.

Rosetta

And besides, now that Lecia's joined us, things don't seem to be so coincidental anymore.

Rosetta turns and faces Gran.

Rosetta

Walfrid, Vyrn, and I—and a few others too—were there.

Rosetta

We all traveled together with your father, Gran.

Rosetta

And he would have been just around the same age as you now.

Lecia

What!

Katalina

Vyrn was there too?

Vyrn

Wait a minute! I don't remember any of this!

Lecia

Then that means your memories from that journey were the ones that got sealed away...

Vyrn

So I've got memories of your dad somewhere in my head, huh?

Rosetta

Ah... So I take it that Vyrn's memories are starting to come back then?

Lyria

Yeah, but only little by little, so there's still lots of memories inside of Vyrn that even he doesn't know about.

Rosetta

Well, we can't expect them to all come back immediately.

Vyrn

Ooo... What'd I do to deserve this?

Vyrn

Why were my memories of Gran's and Lecia's dads sealed? What coulda happened on our journey?

Rosetta

I'm afraid I can't say...

Rosetta

But I'm sure we'll run into some answers on our journey.

Rosetta

And until we do, all I can do is guide you until we reach that destination.

Lecia remembers that she has her father's journal in her bag. Thinking that it may have information about Vyrn and Rosetta's past with her father, she pores over its pages but is disappointed to find that most of them were torn out.

Rosetta's revelation has left the crew in a state of shock.

They silently push on further into the forest, each one deep in thought about what they've just been told.

Lecia

(My father traveled with Gran's father. And Rosetta and Vyrn too...)

Lecia

(They were all skyfarers in the same crew.)

Lecia

(I've never heard any of this before, but then again, Father never did like to talk about his past much.)

Lecia

(But he might've written something about his time with the others in his journal.)

Lecia

(Which means... If we read it, we might be able to figure out what happened back then.)

Lecia, glad she had thought to take her father's journal back in Amalthea, digs in her bag until she finds its soft, leather cover.

Lecia

(Let's see...)

She flips the journal open and begins skimming through the pages, but she's struck with an almost immediate sense of disappointment.

Lecia

(Ah, that's right. I forgot that most of the pages were torn out...)

Lecia

(Someone didn't want anyone else to learn about Father's travels...)

Lecia

(But who? And what's so important they would go to these lengths to hide it?)

Vyrn

Lecia! Watch out!

Lecia

Wha—

Imperial Soldier

Aaaargh!

Like a streak of lightning, Gran appears and deflects the soldier's sword in the nick of time.

Imperial Soldier

Grr!

Lecia

Thanks, Gran! What's an imperial soldier doing in the forest?

Rackam

Heads up! I hear more of 'em comin' our way!

Katalina

We'll have to figure out their motives later. First we fight.

Eugen

Enough jabber! Weapons up—here they come!

As Gran and the others run through the forest, they are pursued by imperial forces.

As Gran and the crew head deeper into the forest, they continue running into imperial soldiers, forcing them into seemingly endless skirmishes.

Imperial Soldier

Rackam

Where do these guys keep comin' from?

Rackam

Didn't all their forces evacuate when Malice went on her rampage?

Rosetta

I'm sorry. When my powers were resealed, the thorns protecting the island disappeared.

Rosetta

So the imperials were able to make their landing.

Katalina

It makes you wonder what they're trying to accomplish. Do you think they're trying to retrieve Malice?

Rosetta

Well, they'll have to go through me first.

Rosetta

If they do anything else to Yggdrasil... I swear I'll fight them as long as I have to!

The imperial soldiers call for Captain Pommern. When he appears, he attempts to capture the crew.

Imperial Soldier 1

Damn everyone on your moronic crew!

Imperial Soldier 2

Don't worry! Once the captain gets here, he'll give 'em what for!

Katalina

Captain?

Imperial Soldier 3

There he is! Over here, Captain Pommern!

Pommern

Goodness, what racket! I could hear you yelling from the next island over!

Pommern

I trust that none of you have forgotten that Her Excellency instructed us to keep confrontation to an absolute minimum for this mission!

It's... It's you!

Pommern

Curses! Why must I run into you on today of all days!

Pommern

But then again... Maybe this is a blessing in disguise.

Pommern

If I were able to capture you and offer you to Her Excellency, oh how pleased she would be!

Eugen

Whoa, treatin' people like objects now? Guess I shouldn't really be surprised, huh, bub...

Eugen

But we don't have time to play your little games right now.

Eugen

So you're either gonna move aside, or we'll move you aside!

Pommern's troops seem to give up quickly, leaving the crew confused about their motives. But Lyria feels Yggdrasil's power returning, prompting the crew to press on.

Gran and the crew are successful in fending off Captain Pommern's attack.

Pommern

Humph. I see you've become quite the adversaries...

Pommern

But you're lucky we have a job to do here—something we can't allow you to distract us from!

Pommern

We'll have to let you go this time. But you won't be so lucky the next time we meet!

With Pommern's parting words, the soldiers turn and disappear into the forest.

Katalina

Hold it! What are you plotting!

Rosetta

Calm down. There's no need to chase after them.

Katalina

What? What if they're really going after Malice?

Rosetta

I don't think they'll succeed. After all, they've gone in the entirely wrong direction.

Rackam

All right, but what if they beat us to Yggdrasil's core and are right in the middle of movin' it somewhere?

Rosetta

They haven't done that either. I can still sense Yggdrasil in the direction we've been heading.

Katalina

Then what are they doing?

Katalina

...!

Eugen

Well, well... That felt like we probably don't have a lotta time to stand around talkin'.

Lyria

I sense a really strong, sad feeling. I think Yggdrasil might be close to reawakening.

Rosetta

You're right. With nothing holding her under control, she'll be awake soon.

Vyrn

Then what're we wastin' time on dumb soldiers for? Let's get a move on, Gran!

A sinister presence hangs in the air, urging Gran and the others to pick up their pace.

The hairs on the back of Gran's neck begin to raise in anticipation of the coming battle.
