Called into the student council office to appear before President Zarazustra, Vice President Patia, and Head Prefect Raclitus, the crew fear their secret has been discovered. Luckily, Zarazustra mistakenly thinks the crew was trying to sneak out at night in order to get familiar with the campus, so he offers to give them a comprehensive tour.

The previous night's attempt to sneak out of the dormitory was thwarted for reasons unknown.

Stranger yet, Lyria sensed a primal beast just before losing consciousness.

To avoid drawing attention, Gran and company decide to wait until lunch period to speak with the others.

But before they can leave the classroom, an announcement tells them to go to the student council's office.

Classmate 1

Wuh-oh! What'ja guys do?

Lyria

W-we didn't do anything!

Classmate 2

Don't freak her out, stupid!

Classmate 2

They probably just wanna ask about their applications or whatever.

Vyrn

Gulp... Did they catch on to us?

Gran hears the panic in Vyrn's hushed voice.

Vyrn

Io's name got called too. Somethin's gotta be up...

Gran, Vyrn, and Lyria's hearts pound as they step into the student council office.

The adults in the crew are there as well.

Two male students in school uniforms preside over the room—one Harvin and one Draph.

Last in attendance is Patia, the student council vice president who had shown them around campus.

Gran's reason for exploring was more out of curiosity than getting familiar with campus.

The crew may have inadvertently stumbled across a way to learn about the primal beast.

They follow Zarazustra and Patia out of the office.

Patia continues guiding the campus tour after Zarazustra is pulled away on urgent business. Monsters suddenly attack the school quad, and the crew spring into action, but an unseen force prevents them from moving. Raclitus shows up with the disciplinary committee; the students dispatch the monsters with ease.

I was hoping you could tell me if there are any places of worship on the island.

Zarazustra

There are none! Religious liberties are guaranteed in the kingdom, and that extends to the school as well.

Zarazustra

In that regard, school policy doesn't promote any specific religion or ideology.

Zarazustra

You're free to worship as you see fit, so long as it doesn't violate school policy. That's what we call school spirit!

Lyria

Then do you know anything about primal beasts?

Zarazustra

Hm... I know they were once used as weapons by the Astrals.

Zarazustra

After the War ended, the primals settled throughout the Sky Realm, including on Magmell, or so I've heard...

The tour given by the two student council members is informative but not in the way the crew had hoped.

Instead of gaining insight into the whereabouts of the primal beast, they have been treated to somewhat banal information about the school.

They follow the shrieks to the quad, which is under attack from several flying monsters.

Rackam

Huh, so even this island has monsters. Seemed obvious there would be, but you never know.

No! You can't! It's dangerous, so please stay here! The situation will work itself out!

Katalina arrives in front of a monster and tries to draw her sword, but she suddenly stops.

Katalina

I can't... move!

Vyrn

What are you doin', Katalina!

Rackam

Tch! If I don't save her now, she's not gonna be around to answer that!

Rackam whips out his gun and aims it at the monster swooping in on Katalina.

Rackam

Urrgh! What the hell! The trigger won't move!

Ugh, talk about a bad time for your gun to jam! Hang on, I'm coming to save the day!

Io starts channeling her magic.

Are you kidding me? I can't use my magic!

Rosetta

Neither can I! It feels as if something's blocking my power...

Eugen

Damn it! What did that monster do?

Monster

Lyria

Katalina!

Lyria tries to summon a primal beast, but that, too, ends in failure.

Katalina's last hope is for Gran to jump in front of the monster and take the blow.

Katalina

Raclitus

The head prefect ignores Katalina's protest and quickly takes command of the situation.

Raclitus

Kition! Call the other committee members here and hold the airborne monsters at bay!

Raclitus

I'll make sure none of the ones that have landed are left alive!

Kition

You heard the head prefect's orders, ya noobs! Don't get in his way!

Armed students move out in accordance with Raclitus's orders.

They quickly mop up the monsters with practiced speed and efficiency.

The crew search their handbooks and find that school policy prohibits anyone who isn't on the disciplinary committee or student council from engaging in combat. This rule, among others, is strictly enforced by the island's primal beast. Gran, Lyria, and Io request to join the committee but are told they'll have to prove their worth against Deputy Prefect Kition.

Patia

Huff... Huff...

Patia

Is everyone okay?

Patia comes running in after the crew while Raclitus and the disciplinary committee clean up straggling monsters.

Why couldn't I use my magic back there?

Raclitus

The wonders of school policy. It's clearly written in the student handbook.

Patia

Ah, the head prefect is here. No wonder things wrapped up so quickly.

Kition

Ahem. Aren't we forgetting someone, Patia?

Patia

I was about to mention you too, Kition. Thanks for coming to help.

Raclitus

Use the committee members as you see fit to straighten up the quad, Patia.

Raclitus

Kition, you're with me on patrol. This racket probably attracted monsters elsewhere on campus.

Kition

Raclitus

Raclitus and Kition leave the area while bickering with each other.

"Institute standard twenty-four: all students and staff are required to be in bed after lights out. Any other activity is prohibited."

I don't know about you, but I think I remember it from last night.

She's right! Heard the same thing as I was blacking out.

Taking this new information into consideration, the crews comes up with a hypothesis about the nature of Magmell's primal beast.

Um, so the Astrals were researching school rules for some reason?

Rackam

Of all the weird primal beasts we've run into, I think this one takes the cake for absurdity.

Katalina

Leaving the purpose behind its creation aside, it's still a tricky one to deal with.

Yeah, like when Lyria tried to use a summon.

Lyria

With that in mind, Gran, Lyria, Vyrn, and Io pay a visit to the disciplinary committee's office after school.

The crew turns around to see Raclitus standing in the doorway.

I can already tell they're clean, so ease up.

Raclitus walks in, stands beside Kition, and clears his throat.

Raclitus

You say you want to join the disciplinary committee?

Raclitus

We're always shorthanded, so any help is welcome. But before we get into that...

Tell me. You heard the school ghost story last night, yes?

What, no one told you about the boy who died at school and now haunts the campus every night?

Raclitus accepts the crew's determination.

Gran, Lyria, and Io pass Kition's test and become committee members, which allows them to engage in combat on school grounds. The next day Gran and Lyria chat with their classmates, who don't seem to mind the restriction on fighting. The conversation highlights the different perspectives of the crew and the kids of Istavion.

Nah, gonna stop you there. It's pretty clear they're plenty strong.

Kition

Psh! Right when I was all limbered up too...

Raclitus meets the snide remarks of his number two with a shrug and leaves.

The head prefect and student council president are sixth-years. Patia and I are fifth-years.

Kition

Gasp! What did you say, Lyria?

Lyria
