Gran and company set out to speak with Zeyen but are stopped by his angry followers on the way. The followers say they were attacked the previous night and that their master and Io are missing. Suspecting the visitors from Idelva, the followers begin to attack the crew.

The Idelva battleship anchored on Kluger Island has been attacked.

The monsters that were lured onto the airship have been cleared out, but the culprit remains a mystery.

In order to rule out Zeyen and his followers as suspects, Gran and the others leave the airship to speak with the sage.

Katalina

Hopefully our suspicions will turn out to be false...

Lyria

I'm worried about Io though. I mean... if he and his followers turn out to be bad people...

Reinhardtzar

An attack against someone from an enemy nation is not so out of the ordinary.

Reinhardtzar

But is this what Bai Ze meant when he said the sage would be difficult to deal with?

Cain

I doubt it. We've sent plenty of envoys before, but none of them were attacked.

Reinhardtzar

Maybe he's changed tactics. Or maybe he's finally showing his true colors...

Cain

You really think so? Something still feels off to me...

As they discuss the mysterious attack, Leona notices something up ahead.

Leona

Huh? There are people coming this way... Are they the sage's followers?

Follower 1

Huff... Huff...

Gran calls out to the followers running toward them.

Dialogue Option

Are you all right?

Follower 1

You've got to be kidding me! You're shameless!

Dialogue Option

Did something happen?

Follower 1

What are you talking about? Can you tell us why you're so upset?

Follower 2

What's that you say? You want us to tell you?

This doesn't make any sense...

The followers catch their breath before speaking again.

They explain that they were attacked the previous night by someone.

Follower 1

Where did you take our master and Io? Is this revenge for refusing your request?

Katalina

What? They've been kidnapped?

Follower 1

Don't play dumb! If you won't tell us then we'll force it out of you!

Vyrn

We've got trouble! And they won't listen to us with that smoke comin' out of their ears! Let's cool 'em off!

The followers explain to Gran and company how they were attacked, and the details are similar to the events on the battleship. Katalina realizes that someone is listening in the shadows and orders the person to come out. Rackam appears from the bushes.

Follower 1

Nghh! No...

Gran and the crew manage to fend off the followers' attacks.

Leona

Please talk to us. What exactly happened last night?

Follower 1

Humph...

Follower 2

Vyrn

We're not getting anywhere with these guys...

Katalina

Sure looks like it. So how about this? We explain first what happened to us and—

Katalina

Gran, look out!

Follower 2

Haaa!

One of the followers rushes toward Gran while brandishing a blade.

Follower 2

You underestimated us! We learned combat techniques while training on this monster-infested island all these—

Monster

Groarrr!

Follower 2

Ah!

I didn't even see it coming...

Oh, now they're finally ready to talk to us.

Having calmed down enough to speak, the followers begin telling their story.

Last night someone snuck in right under our noses.

Whoever it was waited until nightfall to knock us out cold until morning.

We got everyone together to go and report it to our master...

But we couldn't find him nor Io anywhere.

Follower 2

Some people said they saw more than one culprit, and that they were pretty skilled.

It sounded like something only a trained team of soldiers could pull off.

So we ended up suspecting you first...

Follower 2

What? Then what's going on here?

Dialogue Option

Follower 2

You're pretty mature for your age. It really stings when I think about how much I have to learn...

Cain

Our airship was besieged last night too, in fact...

Cain explains to the followers what happened on the battleship that evening.

Cain

So we suspected you as well... I'm not surprised you did the same.

Follower 1

Sure, but it's one thing for us to suspect Idelva...

Follower 1

Suspecting you too is quite another. Aren't you all Io's friends?

Dialogue Option

She sort of grew on us...

Follower 1

Ha-ha! Did she now?

Dialogue Option

We've gotten through some scrapes.

Follower 1

So we've heard. Your journey's been pretty rough.

Lyria

Io is a priceless friend to us.

Follower 1

Indeed... And you are the friends she trusts more than anyone else.

Follower 1

We didn't mean to be so cowardly. We're sorry for attacking you without hearing you out first.

Vyrn

Sounds like you guys have a lot of faith in Io too though!

Katalina

It looks that way. But if they told her that, she'd surely blush and scold them for being softhearted.

Reinhardtzar

All right, back to the point. When all's said and done, who attacked us last night then?

Cain

I guess we can assume that our attackers and the ones who kidnapped Zeyen and Io are the same people.

Vyrn

But if nobody standing here did it, then who did?

Dialogue Option

Someone we don't know...

Just as Gran finishes speaking, Katalina glimpses a shadow nearby.

Katalina

...!
Who's there? I know you're hiding...

???

Katalina

It seems you've been listening to us...

Katalina

So who are you? Come out at once!

Katalina readies her sword as the shadow draws nearer.

But Gran and the crew are unprepared for whom they see emerging from the bushes.

Rackam

...

Despite being reunited with Gran and the crew, Rackam seems uneasy and unusually tight-lipped. They press him about the reason behind his sudden appearance until he admits that he's working for the Rhem Kingdom on a mission to detain Cain and capture Zeyen.

Rackam

Hey, guys...

Vyrn

Rackam? No way!

Vyrn

It's really Rackam! Where have you been?

Rackam

Yeah, what a relief... Good to see you're doing all right...

Katalina

Unbelievable... Why were you hiding? You could've just showed yourself.

Rackam

Well, you know... It seemed kind of awkward to jump in, I guess...

Dialogue Option

Why are you here?

Rackam

Hm? Why... I just sort of ended up here, ya know?

Dialogue Option

How did you get here?

Rackam

Well, there was this and that...

Rackam

Vyrn

Huh? What's wrong? You keep looking over your shoulder...

Rackam

Hm? Oh... Well, you just fought some monsters, right? Just keeping a look out is all.

Lyria

Well, we're just glad to have found you! Were you on this island all along with Io?

Rackam

Yeah. Well, I mean... I found my way here a little later.

Vyrn

Hold on! Then that means we really did see the Grandcypher yesterday!

Vyrn seems excited, but Rackam has a troubled expression on his face.

Rackam

I see... So it was in full view...

Vyrn

Leona

Pardon me... but may I ask who this gentleman is?

Katalina

Oh, we almost forgot to introduce you. This is Rackam, the helmsman of our crew.

Leona

Oh! You're one of the crew members that they've been searching for.

Leona introduces herself and the others to Rackam as soldiers of Idelva.

Rackam

I see. So you're all with Idelva then...

Reinhardtzar

Your name's Rackam, eh?

Rackam

Yeah...

Reinhardtzar

Well, Rackam, it sounds like you got here by airship, but why didn't you dock it at the port?

Reinhardtzar

There were no other airships there last I checked...

Rackam

Is there a reason you can't use the port like everyone else?

Dialogue Option

Reinhardtzar

I'm only asking. If he's not doing anything wrong, then he should be able to answer.

Dialogue Option

Is he that suspicious?

Reinhardtzar

Humph... You tell me. I mean, doesn't his sudden appearance strike you as odd?

Cain

Considering all that's happened so far... it's easy to have some mistrust.

Cain

Io didn't mention you yesterday when we saw her.

Cain

Which means you had to have come last night when Vyrn spotted your airship.

Cain

So... what did you come here for, Rackam?

Rackam

Rackam

I knew it... I knew you'd figure me out.

Katalina

Rackam?

Without a single glimpse at Katalina, Rackam turns to face Cain.

Rackam

General Cain of the Idelva Army...
My job is to detain you and capture the Omniscient Sage.

Rackam

And to be fair and open, I'm telling you this as an acting officer of the Rhem Kingdom.

Rackam explains that the events from the previous night were a part of Rhem's strategy, but he wasn't involved. Gran and the crew ask him why he's working for Rhem, but he only answers that he has no choice. As he readies his gun, he asks Gran to fight him.

Cain

Did you say Rhem Kingdom?

Rackam

Yeah. I'm a member of their envoy. So, sorry, but that means I can't go easy on you.

Reinhardtzar

Humph. So that's what that was? All that ruckus from last night was your doing?

Rackam

I'm not with those line troops, but I heard they were used as part of the strategy.

Follower 1

Unbelievable! Then you're the ones who took our master and Io!

Dialogue Option

Hold on a sec!

Lyria

Right! What's the meaning of this? Please tell us!

Vyrn

Yeah! What's the big idea? I mean... I thought we were friends!

Rackam

Sorry... But right now I have no choice.

Dialogue Option

Tell us what's going on. Now.

Rackam

It's like I said already... I have no choice but to stand against you right now.

Dialogue Option

I don't believe that!

Rackam

I knew you wouldn't. I don't even believe it myself...

Rackam

But right now... this is the only option left to me.

With a pained look on his face, Rackam curls a finger around the trigger of his gun.

Rackam

Gran, I may not be in the best position to ask this of you...

Rackam

But... if you still consider me your friend and crewmate...

Rackam

Don't say another word and just fight.
That's all I ask.

Rackam is silent as he readies his trusty gun.

Katalina

There's more to this story than we know, but for now, Rackam's not backing down.

Lyria

What do we do?

Dialogue Option

We fight.

Vyrn

Come on! Do we really have to do this?

Vyrn

I don't know what the deal is, Rackam, but you've got some explaining to do when we're done!

Gran and the crew defeat Rackam who then collapses to the ground. Rackam whispers only to Gran his request that they rescue the Grandcypher.

Katalina

Haaa!

Rackam

Nghh...

Katalina delivers a solid blow to Rackam's armor, forcing him to his knees.

Without a second thought, Gran rushes over to him and stoops down.

Dialogue Option

Are you okay?

Rackam

After a hit like that... of course I'm not.

Rackam

But thanks. You fought seriously like I asked...

Dialogue Option

Sorry. We overdid it...

Rackam

Not at all... There was no point in going easy on me.

Rackam

But I've gotta admit... that last one really stung.

With his remaining strength, Rackam leans in close to Gran's ear.

He begins to whisper, revealing a startling truth.

Rackam

I'm real sorry... but this was all I could do.

Rackam

I know I'm asking a lot of you, but there's no way I can abandon it like this...

Rackam begins to shift, turning to Gran for his final plea.

Rackam

So, I'm begging you to go rescue it...
Our airship, the Grandcypher...

Gran's eyes grow wide in shock.

But these fervent words tinged with gloom have reached only the captain's ears.
