After Gilbert and the Luminary Knights land on Bestia, a primal beast attacks them. The Scarlet Knight restrains it long enough for Gilbert to take its sanity by invoking the name of the True King. Gilbert then orders Istavion soldiers to search the island for Echidna.

With the pair of knights in tow, Gilbert glares out at Bestia Island.

Gilbert

Wonderful... The final key to our strategy is within reach. And could the scenery be any more fitting?

Golden Knight

Humph. I didn't hear you sigh this time.

Gilbert

Hahaha. Of course not. I truly believe in these words.

Gilbert

For prosperity, for peace itself—that's the real purpose of this destruction.

Gilbert

I can't say I particularly care about watching a devastated city burn.

Scarlet Knight

Hahaha. Surely you're joking. It's none of our business whether the city flourishes or flounders, but we won't play a part in its arson.

Gilbert

Is that so? Then I must apologize.

Gilbert

I'm afraid I don't have the animalistic instinct that compels one to wave a stick around for no rhyme or reason.

Scarlet Knight

Being a bit harsh, aren't we?

Gilbert and the Scarlet Knight continue their exchange while passing quiet smiles at each other.

Golden Knight

You are both endlessly perplexing...

The Golden Knight turns her head and catches sight of a shadow creeping closer.

Primal Beast 1

Golden Knight

Oh? A mere beast pretending to be a noble soldier?

Golden Knight

What a nuisance. I'll dispose of it.

As the Golden Knight draws her sword, soldiers surround her and form a bulwark.

Istavion Soldiers

Leave this to us! A knight shouldn't bother with—

Gilbert

Wait.

Gilbert shoots a quick glance at the Scarlet Knight.

Scarlet Knight

...

Primal Beast 1

...!

The primal beast sets its course on Gilbert and charges forward.

Scarlet Knight

Haa!

The Scarlet Knight stops the primal beast's attack with a skillful parry and pins it to the ground.

Primal Beast 1

...!

Scarlet Knight

...

Gilbert

Brilliant. Hold it like that, just for a moment...

Gilbert places a palm on the primal beast's forehead.

Golden Knight

I-impossible!

Gilbert

Primal beast, heed these words.

Gilbert

It is I who art His catalyst. Serve thy true king, He who hath exercised his divine right in coronation.

Primal Beast 1

...!

Gilbert

On His glorious name, and through His magnanimous decree, I command thee.

Gilbert

Surrender unto madness, primal beast.

Primal Beast 1

...!

Gilbert

Aah...

Gilbert lets out a satisfied breath as the primal beast begins a retreat back to the island core.

Primal Beast 1

...

Its eyes are devoid of glimmer. Or sanity.

Primal Beast 1

...!

Primal Beast 2

...?

Consumed by mania, the primal beast commences an assault against its brethren.

The madness spreads like a virus and infects the island in a matter of seconds.

Gilbert

Well, should we properly get down to business then?

Gilbert turns to face the soldiers and begins giving them orders.

Gilbert

Go search for the primal beast that is bound to this island by pact.

Gilbert

It's a half-woman, half-snake creature. You'll know it as soon as you witness it.

Istavion Soldiers

Yes, sir!

The soldiers split themselves into several battalions and head out to begin the search.

Gilbert

A healthy dose of insanity and turmoil is just what this island needs to properly call open the gates of that unforgiveable plane.

Gilbert

This is an end to all farce. And to this so-called island paradise.

Gilbert watches with a bemused grin as the artificial lunacy continues to warp the island.

The two knights are poised on either side of Gilbert, a pair of statues sternly and quietly witnessing everything as it transpires.

After their battles with Tiamat, Colossus, Leviathan, and Yggdrasil, Gran and the others head back to Echidna's lair. On the way they notice the atmosphere of the island has changed, almost as if all of its resident primal beasts have begun rampaging. Suddenly a crazed primal attacks them.

With the primal beasts properly reconciliated, an accomplished sense of relief radiates among the crew.

They head back to Echidna to report their deeds.

Eugen

Seriously, who would've thought the Grandcypher would wind up here?

Rackam

No kidding. Looks like Lady Luck blessed us a little harder than usual.

Rackam

Getting the ol' thing back was a pain though.

Reinhardtzar

Stop.

Rackam

What?

Reinhardtzar

Something's off. This island—did the air just change?

Cain

Now that you mention it...

Following Cain's lead, Gran and the others begin straining their ears. The breeze carries a strange racket on the wind.

Leona

What's that sound?

Lyria

Th-this is...

Dialogue Option

Are you okay?

Lyria

Y-yes, but I'm sensing something strange from the island.

Primal Beast

...!

What's happening?

Rosetta

This poor little one... Has it lost its sanity?

Lyria

Th-that's right! All of the primal beasts on the island seem to be rampaging...

Primal Beast

...!

Vyrn

Well, we can't leave this guy alone!

Dialogue Option

Come on, everyone!

Faced with a primal beast gone completely berserk, Gran and the others draw their weapons.

Gran and the others are stunned to find that they recognize the primal beast that attacked them. After studying the primal, Lyria announces that she feels a peculiar power emanating from the beast. Cain suggests that he, Leona, and Reinhardtzar split from the crew to help quell the situation.

Primal Beast

Katalina

Pant... pant...

Gran and the others are able to suppress the rampaging primal beast.

Huh? Hey guys, is this one...

Vyrn

That one we stopped from squabblin'? Yeah.

Vyrn

It was actin' normal before. What happened, I wonder?

Lyria

It seems like whatever happened to this primal beast is happening all around the island.

Rackam

Yeesh, so trying to get them to make up's not the best option right now, huh?

Rosetta

These little ones have completely lost restraint. They don't even realize the extent of the harm they're causing to one another.

Lyria

It's so sad. Everyone is hurting each other so much...

Lyria

How did this happen... Just a few moments ago everyone was living so happily.

Dialogue Option

We have to stop them.

Th-that's right! If they're hurting each other, then we've just got to get them to stop!

Who knows what caused this, but we're still fine. There's gotta be something we can do.

Dialogue Option

We can do something.

Eugen

Aye. It's just as Gran says. It's pretty stormy conditions out there.

Eugen

But even if they've all gone crazy, and even if we get pretty bruised up, we've gotta put a stop to this.

Eugen

And we gotta do it while they can still get their minds back.

Cain

Gran, let's split into two groups.

Cain

This situation being what it is, we'll need to be in more places than one.

Cain

I'll take Leo and Reinhardtzar. Gran, you take the rest of the gang and put a stop to this fighting.

Dialogue Option

You got it!

Cain

All right! Let's get out there and save as many primal beasts as we can!

Dialogue Option

Just the three of you?

Cain

Yeah. We may not look the part, but we're all military-trained.

Cain

Besides, if we split up this way, we'll be working in the groups we're most comfortable with, right?

Cain

We're looking forward to seeing what your crew can do—especially since you guys have crossed the skydoms!

Gran and Cain lock eyes for a fraction of a second, exchanging a look of mutual respect and a silent plea for reciprocal safety.

Leona

Please be careful. Seriously.

Leona

Gran, your crew must think of fighting primal beasts as so normal...

Leona

But these are no ordinary circumstances. Don't let your guard down.

Reinhardtzar

More than that, you'd best look out for whatever brought this to pass.

Reinhardtzar

Even if we manage to stop the fighting, if they just start up again, we will have gotten nowhere. Treat the cause, not just the symptoms.

Cain

The cause... If you guys find out anything about it, make sure you let us know.

Cain, Leona, and Reinhardtzar salute the crew and then head out into the wilderness of Bestia Island.

Gran and the crew soon come across signs of a gruesome struggle.

Katalina

When primal beasts lose control, I suppose this kind of thing is inevitable...

Lyria

Even if we learn little by little, coming here will help us understand why they lost control.

Lyria

I sense something coming from the rampaging primal beasts, something entirely different than their usual power.

Lyria

And whatever it is, it's overpowering the primal beasts entirely...

Katalina

Overpowering the primal beasts? Do you think an Astral is behind this?

Rosetta

No. An Astral would employ the same kind of power as a primal beast.

Rosetta

Something that could counter the Astrals' power—I've never heard of such a thing.

Without any plausible clues, the crew is at a loss.

Rackam

No mystery is solved in a day. We'll come back to it later.

Rackam

For now let's focus on helping the primal beasts that we can—like this one!

Gran and the crew surmise that someone has caused the primals to behave strangely. As they discuss the possibilities, they are approached by Istavion soldiers looking for a half-snake, half-woman primal beast. The crew feigns ignorance, but the soldiers attack them anyway.

Katalina

Haa!

Primal Beast 1

...!

Rackam

Ungh!

Primal Beast 2

...

As the primal beasts fall to the ground, they give Lyria a defeated glare.

Lyria

It's exactly like Echidna said...

Lyria

Because the primal beasts were made to be weapons, they've been through so many terrible and sad things...

Lyria

But these ones were here living so peacefully, so far away from all of that.

Lyria

What happened? Who is doing this!

Dialogue Option

We can't forgive them.

Lyria

No, we can't! Echidna, her children... None of them asked for this!

Lyria

If someone actually wanted this to happen, then I know I could never forgive them.

Dialogue Option

We'll definitely catch them.

Lyria

Yes, we will! We have to catch them quickly, so the island's primal beasts can return to normal.

Just as the crew finds its resolve rejuvenated, Eugen suddenly signals everyone to pipe down.

Eugen

Footsteps. Soldiers—four of 'em.

Rackam

Soldiers? Did Cain call in reinforcements?

Eugen

Who knows. They're gettin' closer. Gran, get ready.

Gran and the crew reach for their weapons and wait for the owners of the footsteps to appear.

Istavion Soldier 1

Huh? People? Here? State your purpose!

Hm... This soldier's uniform looks so familiar...

Istavion Soldier 2

One of the soldiers examines each of the wary crew members. He then leans over to his comrade.

Istavion Soldier 2

This looks like all of those skyfarers, but still no sight of that primal beast.

Istavion Soldier 1

Hmm...

Katalina

It seems you've been heading this direction for some time. Are you looking for someone?

Istavion Soldier 1

Well, in a manner of speaking, yes. We're searching for a primal beast.

Istavion Soldier 1

Half-woman, half-snake—seen one like that around here?

Katalina

R-right. Can't say that I've ever seen one of that description.

Istavion Soldier 1

Hm. That answer complicates things.

The soldiers draw their weapons and point them at Gran and the crew.

Rackam

You weren't gonna let us go from the very beginning, were you?

Istavion Soldier 1

No hard feelings. We're under top secret orders.

Istavion Soldier 1

Just think of yourselves as being in the wrong place at the wrong time!

Vyrn

Yikes! They look serious. We've gotta fight 'em, Gran!

Gran and the crew find it suspicious that the Istavion Troop is on Bestia Island, considering the island is independent of all nations. They decide that the island's desperate situation and the strange appearance of the alien soldiers is a bit too suspicious.

Istavion Soldier 1

Urgh... Curses!

Rosetta

I believe that's it for the soldiers in this area.

Hey, these guys were in Silverwind Stretch, right? They're Istavion guys, I think.

Eugen

Yep. Those uniforms are one and the same.

Rackam

Isn't Istavion the name of a country in the Oarlyegrande Skydom?

Rackam

Why'd they send soldiers all the way to the border of Nalhegrande?

Rosetta

Why is a question for a different time, I'm afraid. But there's no denying they're here in the flesh.

Rosetta

And another thing is certain: the island's current chaotic state and the appearance of Istavion soldiers are linked somehow.

Rosetta

I'm still not sure who's behind it all, but these two definitely played a part.

Katalina

Their goal was quite clear too.

Katalina

They were trying to find Echidna.

Katalina

And I somehow doubt they had peaceful business with her.

Dialogue Option

Let's hurry back.

Lyria

Yes. I'm worried about Echidna!

Having learned the soldiers' true intentions, Gran imagines the worst has befallen Echidna.

Wrapped in pessimistic concern for their friend, the crew makes a hasty return to the primal beast.
