A soft breeze floats through Amalthea Island, home base of the skyfarers charged with the administration and protection of the Phantagrande Skydom—the Fourth Fleet of the Crew of Enforcers.
At the local port, a handful of airships begin to dock.
Enforcer
Flagship Graneins, preparing to land!
From the largest and most splendid of the ships, a lone knight disembarks.
Blue Knight
...
Lecia and Monika stand in front of their subordinates, waiting to greet him.
Lecia, with Monika by her side, appears from the Fourth Hall and heads to the docks to greet him.
Lecia
(Father, what in the skies were you thinking when you made me acting captain...)
Back before Gran and the crew headed for the Silverwind Stretch to rescue Drang, Lecia was called back to Amalthea Island.
After arriving on the island, Monika told her about rumors of a strange request.
And it was her duty to follow up on these rumors.
After all, she had been made acting captain in Walfrid's stead while he was away fighting bandits.
Lecia
(Come on, stay focused. He's almost back.)
Lecia
We've been anticipating your arrival... Captain Walfrid.
Walfrid
Acting Captain Lecia, though it was only a short time you led the Enforcers, you were an absolute credit to the crew.
Walfrid
Allow me to thank you for your effort. Good work.
Lecia
Thank you, sir.
Walfrid
Now—straight to business. Acting Captain Lecia, Monika, I've got something to discuss.
Walfrid
I'll see you in my office.
Monika
Yes, sir...
Walfrid passes Monika and Lecia and heads toward the Fourth Hall with his entourage in tow.
Lecia
...
Lecia
(That was it? But we haven't met in so long...)
Monika
Lecia, are you okay? You're spacing out.
Lecia
Uh, yeah. What is it, Monika?
Monika
The captain just asked for us, remember?
Monika
I'm going to head to the hall straight away. How about you?
Lecia
I, um, had better talk to the Graneins crew about, you know, docking procedures and restocking the supplies.
Monika
Right... I'll see you there.
Lecia
Yeah, see you there.
Lecia sees to it that the Flagship Graneins's docking is completed.
She psyches herself up before heading to the captain's office.
Lecia's Voice
Permission to enter.
Lecia
...
Walfrid
Granted. But you're late, Lecia.
Lecia
I'm sorry. I was caught up with arranging supply delivery to the Graneins.
Lecia
We already have most of the necessities in our inventory, so I expect we'll be done by tomorrow.
As Lecia finishes her explanation, she notices her father cracking a wry smile.
Walfrid
Lecia, you've grown so much...
Walfrid
I had my doubts but making you acting captain was not at all a premature decision.
Walfrid gives his daughter a satisfied nod.
Walfrid
Hmm... Did you grow a little taller while I was gone?
Lecia grins at her father's nonchalant remark.
Lecia
Haha. I'm way past that. It would be a miracle if I got taller now.
Monika
Humph. I hope you're not suggesting I give up hope.
Lecia
Eh-heh...
Lecia
I promise that's not what I meant!
Walfrid
Hah. Happy to see that you're still getting along well with Monika.
The captain straightens his posture.
Walfrid
Allow me to thank you once again, Lecia. You've borne your responsibilities as acting captain with aplomb.
Walfrid
But I'm sorry to say the time has come to return the reins.
Walfrid's expression hardens and his voice grows stern—it's as if the captain of the Crew of Enforcers had never left.
Walfrid
On to the matter I really called you here for. There's a task that only the both of you can handle.
Lecia
Only us?
Monika
Judging by your expression, it would seem this isn't going to be a walk in the park.
Walfrid
It's no exaggeration to say that this job is dangerous.
Walfrid
But more than that, it's something that I can entrust only to those who have my absolute faith.
The captain gives a precautionary glance around the perimeter before continuing.
Walfrid
I want you two to conduct a classified investigation.
Monika
Classified... So this is going to be one of those types of missions, huh?
Walfrid
Yes. But only a select few can be made aware of the particulars surrounding this assignment.
Walfrid
I would handle it myself, but that king has been keeping an observant eye on me. It won't be easy to hide from him.
Walfrid
Depending on the results of this investigation, he may aim for our lives.
Walfrid
But if it's not conducted, then the future of a certain skydom...
Walfrid
Nay—if I am correct in my assumptions, ignoring this could lead to the destruction of all skydoms.
Walfrid's posture falls heavy, and he lets out a sigh as he finalizes the request.
Walfrid
Will you accept the mission? Both of you?
Monika and Lecia nod without any hesitation.
Lecia
Of course, Father.
Monika
I would never deny a request from the captain himself.
Walfrid
Thank you both. There's not a more dependable pair in the skies.
Emboldened by their response, Walfrid begins explaining the details of the investigation.
Walfrid
Some time ago, I received a peculiar request from a certain individual.
Walfrid
I can't reveal the informant's identity...
Walfrid
But he's an old friend of mine. You can trust that his information is as true as the skies are vast.
Lecia
What are we investigating exactly?
The captain lets a moment hang in the air before he continues.
Walfrid
Investigate the sins of the Nalhegrande Skydom.
Walfrid
That was the request that was brought to me.
Lecia and Monika raise their eyebrows at the abstract assignment.
Back on the other side of the skies, Gran and the crew have met back up with Cain.
Everyone returns to Luxurios, capital city of the Idelva Kingdom, to discuss how to take care of the current situation.
Pholia
So Gilbert was at fault?
Pholia
Well, I can't say that I didn't see this coming...
Lyria
At least Orchid and the others are all right!
Dialogue Option
Yeah, thank goodness!
Io
You can say that again. We've all been through a lot.
Io
It's a miracle that everyone sucked into the Grim Basin came out okay.
Dialogue Option
They're not that easy to get rid of!
Katalina
You're right. No matter which island those three find themselves on, they always find a way to save their hides.
Katalina
But why did they send us a message like that...
Vyrn
Hm, you'd think they woulda given us more to go off of before leavin' outta the blue...
Cain
Sorry... I had no idea you knew them.
Cain
After they said their piece, they just left. I should've stopped them.
Katalina
No, that's just how that man is. I'm sure he has something in mind.
Katalina
And judging from his message, we might be able to guess—preparations or gathering information maybe.
Stop Gilbert and the Istavion Kingdom for the Nalhegrande Skydom.
This was the message the crew received from Drang back in Bestia. Now they're discussing it amongst themselves.
Pholia
As for our first steps, I agree that we may have to resort to underhanded measures.
Pholia
After all, that Gilbert isn't to be underestimated.
Cain
But Gilbert is completely ignoring his responsibilities to Rhem.
Cain
If we inform the king, he would lose his position, wouldn't he?
Pholia
A nice thought. But it's a rather eccentric case that the silly king has given him favor in the first place.
Pholia
Not to mention the ministers, the army, the people—they all support Gilbert.
Pholia
One wonders if it might not be more accurate to call Gilbert a despot and Rhem Kingdom his personal autocracy.
Katalina
Is that even possible? Without being king, how could a single man garner that much support from across the land?
Reinhardtzar
Suppose he made it possible. Would you doubt it then?
Pholia
Oh? You're a sensitive one today. Remembering how tough it was to govern Merkmal Island?
Reinhardtzar
You know nothing. I would never do to that island what that man has done to his kingdom.
Pholia
Oh, of course. Silly me.
Dialogue Option
What are you talking about?
Reinhardtzar
Gran, when your opinion differs with someone else, what do you do?
Dialogue Option
Talk it out.
Reinhardtzar
Thought so.
Dialogue Option
Try to emphathize.
Reinhardtzar
Thought so.
Reinhardtzar
But that wastes time, and you might not reach a common understanding.
Reinhardtzar
Normally people don't begin to rule with an iron fist so easily.
Reinhardtzar
But in reality, some do pursue the fastest, most effective way.
Reinhardtzar
That is to say, whenever you don't see eye-to-eye with someone... just get rid of them.
Gran gasps at the gruesome suggestion.
Pholia
For the longest time I've had my suspicions about that man. So I did a little bit of digging...
Pholia
And after delving to the very bottom of layers upon layers of intrigue, wouldn't you know that there were just too many suspicious incidents? Accidents, if you will.
Pholia
And all of those involved were people opposed to Gilbert at one point or another.
Pholia
Whether they held political or ideological differences with Gilbert, they were an obstacle the moment they voiced their disagreement.
Pholia
That's why everyone around him began falling one after another, just like flies.
Pholia
It's easy to see how he became the only one with power over the course of time.
Vyrn
Gulp... Incidents? And accidents?
Cain
Assassination...
Pholia
Hypothetically speaking, of course. The first two or three times might have been a coincidence, but the ones after that...
Pholia
How he obtained enough power and influence to begin with is still a mystery to me.
Pholia
But if Istavion knew...
Knew that Gilbert was being backed by the True King, then it all makes sense I suppose.
Pholia shrugs her shoulders, but the look on her face is grave.
Katalina
This situation is more serious than we assumed.
Rackam
But if you're tellin' us to stop this guy...
Rackam
Are we even capable of that?
Katalina
Fear holds you back.
Rackam
Fear keeps you alive.
Rackam grits his teeth and continues.
Rackam
Stoppin' Gilbert. That means goin' up against them again—those Luminary Knights.
Rackam
You remember when we fought them on Bestia Island, right?
Lyria
But...
Lyria
Next time will be okay! Everyone just has to try really hard...
Eugen
Fraid not. They're not such an easy bunch to tackle.
Eugen
We've been through a thousand fights with a thousand tough foes...
Eugen
But those two. There was somethin' different about 'em.
Eugen
And I'm not even talkin' about a difference in power. It's like there's somethin' else givin' them the upper hand.
Eugen
If we went at 'em guns blazin', we'd just lose all over again.
Rosetta nods in agreement with the grim-faced Rackam and Eugen.
Rosetta
Two knights who've stolen the power of primal beasts...
Rosetta
They're a force that's even stronger than Lyria's.
Rosetta
There's something they possess that's beyond us. That's become all too clear.
Katalina
Even still... Can't we do anything...
Io
They absorbed primal beasts, right? So, um, what would happen to Rosetta?
Rosetta
...
Rosetta answers Io's question with grim but evident silence.
Dialogue Option
...
The crew continues thinking of ways to deal with the menace of the Luminary Knights.
Suddenly Pholia, seated across the room, makes a solemn address.
Pholia
Just as you've heard, this problem concerns Nalhegrande Skydom.
Pholia
So I can't force you to go through with this...
Pholia adjusts her sleeve before continuing.
Pholia
But from where I'm looking, it seems like you've all got the potential to grow stronger yet.
Pholia
And if you truly wish to reach the ends of the skies...
Pholia
Well, you can't let yourselves be daunted by the Seven Luminary Knights, now can you?
Dialogue Option
...
Pholia turns her unwavering gaze toward Gran.
Pholia
Do you want to be powerful, Gran?
Dialogue Option
Yes.
Pholia
Good answer! And guiding you to this goal will be of eventual use to me.
Pholia
Listen closely. The root of the knights' power is primal beasts. That much is clear.
Pholia
It's possible for you to borrow a similar power through Lyria.
Pholia
But up until this point all you've had your primal friends do is thrash about.
Pholia
If you and your primal beasts come together and forge a deeper mutual understanding, you will exhibit new power—and maybe even find a way to deal with the Luminary Knights.
Lyria
Understand the primal beasts? More than now?
Vyrn
That sounds real easy on paper, but how're we s'posed to do somethin' like that? It's not like we can ask the Luminary Knights how they do it.
Pholia flashes a proud smile at Vyrn.
Pholia
Don't tell me you've forgotten the man, neither Astral nor Luminary Knight, who can use the primals' power on a whim...
Io
...!
Io
You're right! Mentor would probably know something!
Pholia
Then that settles it. Head out as soon as you're ready.
Pholia's plan fills the crew with a glimmer of hope.
To gain a deeper understanding of primal beasts, the crew sets a course for the home of Zeyen, Kluger Island.
