After rebuffing the other Rackam, the real Rackam continues toward the city of Port Breeze. Eugen, on the other hand, is spending time with Artemisia, causing him to slowly forget about reality. He soon remembers his purpose, however, when he encounters the Black Knight atop a familiar hill.
Rackam?
Grr!
Rackam
Should we continue? You've got the same pretty face as me, so I'd feel weird about finishin' you off.
Rackam?
You're not gonna finish me off. I'm you. As long as you're around, so am I.
Rackam
Is that so? Well I'm the one that's in control here. Whatever kinda thoughts I got floatin' around inside, you're not gonna change my intentions.
Rackam?
Tch. You're a stubborn one. But that's who we are.
The other Rackam backs off, turns around, and begins heading away from the city.
Rackam?
We'll settle this the next time we meet. You'd better go easy on me.
The other Rackam disappears into the rage of the rain and wind.
Rackam
Whew... Tiamat, you okay over there?
Tiamat
...
The piece of the storm that had been keeping Tiamat busy unfurls, and the primal beast floats back down to Rackam's side.
Rackam
Everything he said... Yeah, that's all me.
Rackam
All 'cept the part where he ran away with his tail between his legs.
Rackam
But what was that all about anyway?
Rackam
Did some kinda monster or primal beast figure out what gets to me and cast some kinda mind crap on me?
Tiamat shakes her head as if to suggest she is just as confused.
Rackam
Huh. Well. Guess we should go into the city for now.
Rackam
Maybe we can ask somebody about this storm or about that other me.
Surrounded by thoughts of the strange encounter, Rackam and Tiamat head into Port Breeze.
Meanwhile Eugen is undergoing confusion of his own.
Artemisia
Oh, sounds like the water's boiling.
Artemisia stands to prepare some tea, but she is stopped by Eugen.
Eugen
Sit, sit, sit! I'll handle it.
Artemisia
Haha. Okay, thank—
Artemisia
O-ouch...
Eugen
What's wrong! Are you okay?
Artemisia
It's... It's nothing.
Artemisia
She just kicked a little. She's an energetic little thing today.
Artemisia lovingly rubs her own stomach.
Artemisia
I bet Apollo would be happy if her father stuck around a little longer.
Eugen
Haha. That sounds good to me too.
Eugen has begun spending his days in the past Auguste dutifully caring for his pregnant wife.
Artemisia
I bet Apollo's going to grow up to be a firecracker. Just like her father.
Eugen
No, I've got a hard head and a scary face...
Eugen
I wish she hadn't grown up to be like me, but whew, she sure does...
Artemisia
Huh?
Eugen
Oh, nothing. Just overthinkin' it.
Eugen
Now which can were those tea leaves in?
Eugen
Yeeeouch!
While fumbling around the kitchen, Eugen accidentally touches a hot kettle.
Artemisia
Are you okay?
Artemisia
We had better ice that quickly.
Eugen
Haha. It's nothin'. I can do it myself, so you just sit down.
Artemisia
But it could turn into something if you don't treat it properly.
Eugen
I'm well aware of that. Skyfarers fight a lot of fire-breathin' monsters, you know.
Artemisia smiles at Eugen as she watches him tend to his burn.
Artemisia
Haha. I can't believe it.
Artemisia
Someone who loves the sky so much is back in this house and actually enjoying himself...
Eugen
Well, I mean... The skies got nothin' on my beautiful wife.
Eugen
(I'm a filthy liar. Even back in this time, I couldn't take my mind off of bein' a skyfarer.)
Eugen
(I was there for Apollo's birth, but there were lots of days where I left Artemisia in the house to tend to herself.)
Eugen
(I can't say it was all because I was a skyfarer either.)
Eugen
(I really did bad by her.)
Eugen
...
Eugen
(This place is in the past, but it might not be the past I know. It looks like it, but this could be a completely different place.)
Eugen
(Even if I can do better for Artemisia now, it means nothin'. You can't change the past.)
Eugen
(I understand that all too well...)
Artemisia
Eugen? Are you okay, honey? You're just over there spacing out.
Eugen
Yeah, I'm fine.
Eugen
So did you decide yet? What you want to eat tonight? You'll want somethin' fresh for sure.
Eugen
I'll go fish up whatever kinda seafood you desire!
Artemisia
Haha...
Where once Eugen had felt only guilt, the calm days spent beside Artemisia begin to fill him with quiet content.
But the greater his peace grows, the further the real world begins to slip into the recesses of his mind.
Eugen
I'm headed out for a bit. Try to stay off your feet while I'm gone!
Artemisia
All right. Take care out there!
But soon a stranger day comes to haunt Eugen's new found peace.
He is visiting the Tzannis Plateau on official skyfarer business.
Eugen
Let's see... According to the client, it's s'posed to be growin' 'round here somewhere.
The sound of armored footsteps distracts Eugen from his search.
Eugen
Huh? A soldier? If this damn tin can tries to tell me I can't be here...
When Eugen turns to see the owner of the footsteps, he finds himself suddenly short of breath.
Eugen
Y-you!
Black Knight
No. You. State what you're doing.
Eugen
Th-this can't be! You ain't s'posed to be born yet!
Black Knight
It can't be? Then explain your age.
Black Knight
Is there any other way this situation could be?
Black Knight
But there are more important things to talk about. Why are you still hesitating?
Eugen
Hesi—
Black Knight
You cannot hide from me. This world will tell me where you've gone.
Black Knight
You have something you must do. You've been readying yourself for it for a while.
Black Knight
So why are you still hesitating? Is this all you can really muster?
Eugen
Tch...
Black Knight
Cease your wavering. Don't lose sight of what you must build and don't deny our past promise.
Eugen
...
Eugen
You're right... All of it. But I...
Finding himself without any words, Eugen grits his teeth in frustration.
He notices another pair of footsteps, softer than before, approaching.
Artemisia
...
Eugen
Artemisia, why are you here?
Silently Artemisia walks between her husband and her child.
Artemisia
...
Black Knight
...
Black Knight
Humph. An unwelcome interruption. This is where I take my leave.
Black Knight
But the time will come. You won't be able to falter forever.
With her words still lingering in the air, the knight turns on her heel and leaves the pair.
Artemisia
Sigh...
Artemisia
Eugen, are you all right?
Eugen
Ay-aye...
Artemisia grips Eugen's hand and pulls ever so slightly.
Artemisia
Let's go home now.
Eugen
Yes... Let's do that...
Eugen returns Artemisia's grip with a loving squeeze.
But the knight's words echo in his head, continuously tormenting him.
