Granblue Story Archives

The Violet Knight questions how he is to fight the Otherworlders since they are beings intrinsically tied to death and destruction. Tau'luk reveals they destroyed this version of the Sky Realm by crushing the islands of Oarlyegrande one by one, and to prevent the same fate in the unbroken sky, all seven Luminary Knights would be needed. The Violet Knight acknowledges this and the two escape the broken world. In the Violet Knight's absence, a seam rips open in reality and swallows everything, including the massive writhing monstrosity.

In an unknown sky, the king and the knight are surrounded by deafening silence as they find themselves at a crossroads.

So how exactly do we save a whole sky?

Especially when the Otherworlders mess with memories and reality.

Tau'luk

They use the providence of death to walk between worlds. That's what makes them meddlesome.

Violet Knight

Meddlesome? More like horrifying. We have almost no information—which means no way to resist them.

Violet Knight

Firstly, do we even have a way to rid the sky of Otherworlders? They're linked to death and destruction, and last I heard, those are impossible to... kill?

Tau'luk

Hm. What if we could avoid death and destruction?

Violet Knight

Avoid them?

Tau'luk

Subjects rely on their ruler for survival. By guaranteeing food, clothing, and shelter, the ruler keeps death at bay.

Tau'luk

Consequently, the lack of fatalities seems to prevent the Otherworld from attacking Istavion. At least for now.

Violet Knight

Haha... I see. It all makes sense now.

Violet Knight

Before they started their full assault on our Istavion, they started crushing its islands one by one.

Tau'luk

Hm. Well, that is an ill portent.

Tau'luk

In the not so distant future, the same thing will happen in my sky.

Tau'luk

The invisible hand will begin to infiltrate the islands. If all of the islands of Oarlyegrande are allowed to fall, the skies will barrel toward destruction.

Tau'luk

One would like to mount a defense as soon as possible, but that will prove difficult without all seven Luminaries. Our version of you is dead, after all.

Violet Knight

Well, that's grim news. What about my, er, his family? Are they okay?

Tau'luk

They are. For now, at least.

Violet Knight

Sigh... You ask a lot of me, Your Majesty.

Tau'luk

Hmph. Imagine all the trouble I've gone through to appear here and ask you.

Violet Knight

Fine. I get it. I'll be your ally. Though I'll never be able to put this world out of mind.

Tau'luk

Never fear. When you leave this sky, it will return to the void.

Violet Knight

Even our wriggly little seat here?

Tau'luk

When you leap to the next world, that will split this realm open, causing everything—this writhing mass included—to return to a nothingness of neither life nor death.

Violet Knight

Ah, I see... That's why you went through the trouble of coming here? Might as well blast this ruined sky into the void.

Tau'luk

Exactly.

Violet Knight

In that case, get me out of here. Show me this sky I've gotta protect.

Tau'luk

Good. Let us be off, Violet Knight.

Violet Knight

Yes sir. Lead the way.

The two men disappear from atop the bizarre monster.

After some time...

A seam of nothingness cracks open in the Violet Knight's absence. It quickly stretches, greedily swallowing everything it touches.

Light, sound, and time cease to exist as the tear consumes reality itself.

???

...

Even the world-gorging beast, throne and enemy of the Violet Knight for decades, is devoured by the void.

It becomes clear that Gran needs to complete the King's Eye, which requires collecting the remaining Sky Map pieces of Oarlyegrande. They are guided from island to island by their guest helmsman, Anamaria, but both Gran and Rackam feel something off about her overly friendly presence.

Rackam

So, what should we do, Gran? Wanna drop by the other two islands while we're out?

What was that vision Gran saw just now? It was different than the ones induced by Dryad's Sky Map piece.

Octavia

Once you have perfected the King's Eye, you will bear witness to not only the complete condition of your country, but also the invisible hand that threatens the sky...

The visions flicker away, leaving Gran restless.

If the Green Knight can be trusted, these visions—currently blurry and debilitating—can only be rectified in one way...

Dialogue Option

Let's get all the Sky Map pieces.

Rackam

Got it. Where should we head first?

Gran and Rackam unfurl a navigation chart and decide on the closest route.

Anamaria

Sorry, can I cut in?

Rackam

Huh? You know a good way?

Anamaria

Of course I do. We're headed to Wakwaaq Island, right? I recommend going off the beaten path.

Anamaria

Ah, here it is. This route has fewer monsters and less debris this time of year, so it should be smooth sailing.

Rackam

Good thinking. While we're plotting courses, got a recommendation for flying from Wakwaaq to Edan?

Anamaria

Edan? Is that a real place? I've never heard of it.

Rackam

Huh? Really? Guess we'll look it up later.

Lyria's Voice

Ooooh, Ana! I made tea!

Anamaria

Is it that time already? Sorry, guys, I promised Lyria I'd do teatime with her. Shout when you're ready for me to take the helm.

Rackam

Huh? S-sure. Take it easy.

Anamaria

Haha. What's with the weird face? It's not like you've never seen me pilot before.

Anamaria's Voice

Not at all. I never have to worry with Rackam at the helm. Not after all this time together.

Rackam

Rackam

Whatever. Let's just lift off.

Rackam looks to Gran in frustration, but his voice dies on his lips. He fires up the engine in silence.

Rackam and Gran are watching Anamaria as she interacts with the crew. Rackam reveals, despite having traveled with Anamaria since Port Breeze, that he feels like he's looking at his fellow helmsman for the first time. Concerned for Rackam's fatigue, Gran offers to pilot the Grandcypher. Rackam acquiesces, but warns Gran not to fly recklessly like the time they saved Alliah.

Rackam

Io's Voice

We barely made it out alive back then, huh? Does it still hurt?

Rackam

...

Anamaria's Voice

No, but now I've got a sweet scar on my lower back. Here, lift up my shirt and look.

Eugen's Voice

Cough!

Anamaria's Voice

What gives, Eugen! You just spit tea everywhere! That's gross, man!

Eugen's Voice

Cough, cough... Sorry, not used to young ladies disrobing in front of old farts like me.

Rackam

Rackam stares at his companions, clearly uneasy about something. A concerned Gran begins to prod.

Rackam

Hm? Nah, I'm not worried. I just feel like something strange is going on.

Rackam

This ship, me and Ana... It's been us two helmsmen flying the Grandcypher for a long time now.

Rackam

So why does she feel like a stranger to me? Can't put my finger on it.

Dialogue Option

Like you've never actually met before?

Rackam

Yeah, exactly. It's the damnedest thing...

Dialogue Option

That's called jamais vu!

Rackam

Oh, is it? Sounds just as weird as this feeling feels...

Rackam, eyelids heavy, rubs his eyes to wake himself up, but a yawn escapes his mouth despite his effort.

Dialogue Option

I can take over if you want to rest.

Rackam

Haha! You make my job sound too easy. It takes more than just steering, you know.

Rackam

Ah, I guess it's fine. You've been watching me long enough by now. You know what to do.

Switching over to chart-reading duty, Rackam pats Gran on the shoulder and plops down on a stool next to the wheel.

Gran pulls the thrust lever exactly the way Rackam had shown the captain hundreds of times since leaving Phantagrande.

Rackam

Looks like you've got it handled. Just don't do anything crazy, okay? I don't want a repeat of the Great Wall.

The captain remembers steering toward Alliah as she was falling to the bottom of the sky during the Great Wall fight.

The nosedive was enough to catch Alliah. But more miraculously, Gran was able to correct the Grandcypher's descent just enough to avoid a death spiral.

Rackam

That was an amazing bit of flyin' you did back then, but you just remember: lightning doesn't strike in the same place twice.

Dialogue Option

My daredevil piloting days are over.

Shrugging off the chastisement with a grin, Gran grips the wheel.

Rackam is awoken from another nightmare by Anamaria, who gently chides him. Anamaria mentions how she and her fiance were saved by the crew back in Port Breeze, which Rackam remembers happening. However, confusion spreads throughout the crew when various members recall differing information about their destination.

After Rackam gives Gran control of the ship, the crew makes good time toward Wakwaaq Island.

However...

Rackam

Whoa! Nasty bit of turbulence there...

Rackam

Hey, Gran. Did something—

Rackam leaps to his feet to assess the situation.

Rackam

Gran? Where did you go?

But no one else is on the bridge. Without a pilot to steady the Grandcypher, the ship's wheel spins out of control.

Rackam

Oh crap!

Rackam rushes to steady the vessel.

Rackam

Ngh! I can't stop it!

Rackam

...!

The wheel turns into a bizarre fleshy mound and begins to swallow Rackam's arm.

Rackam

What the hell is happening!

Steadily it draws him in until he is consumed entirely.

Rackam

...!

Anamaria

Hey, you're awake. You okay? You were dozing off.

Rackam

Ah, sorry... I needed a nap...

Anamaria

You said you can't sleep because of nightmares, right? I could put you to bed if you want.

Rackam

That's dumb. You have a fiance, right? You can't be joking around like that.

Anamaria

Ahaha. True, true. But, you know...

Anamaria

You guys worked your butts off to save us back in Port Breeze. If you hadn't...

Anamaria

Never mind. Just remember what I keep telling you: I owe you my life, so don't hesitate to ask me for anything.

Rackam

Right. Yeah... You do, uh, always tell me that...

Anamaria

Well, I'm going to go survey the sky conditions. You should get back to Gran. I'm sure the captain would like to hear your thoughts.

Rackam

Now then... Where were we flying to again?

Taking his place beside Gran, Rackam rubs the sleep out of his eyes and peers at the parchment detailing their route.

Vyrn

Look! The island's come into view!

Lyria

O-oh my! It's just like you two said!

Rackam

Huh? What are you so surprised about?

Octavia

I cannot hide my surprise either. It's the illusive island Wakwaaq, after all. Like finding a diamond in the sky...

Gran

...?

Rackam

...?

Seeing the others' reactions, Gran and Rackam shrug at one another.

Rackam

What do you mean illusive? Isn't it a commercial island under Istavion's banner? We are talking about the same Wakwaaq, aren't we?

Octavia

Yes. It was once a bustling commercial hub... Or so I've heard...

Rackam

Wait... "Was"?

With an uneasy feeling, Rackam and Gran head to the deck.

Rackam

What in the world...

Directly ahead is a destroyed island devoid of a living populace.

Vyrn

The Green Knight said this place was destroyed by the Otherworlders a few decades ago.

Lyria

That Edan Island place you were talking about earlier? What if it met the same fate...

Octavia

It is a dangerous wager that this island still contains a Sky Map piece. But it is a wager we must take.

Octavia

We must remain hopeful that we can collect the final pieces.

Rackam

What is going on? Weren't we going to that island to meet with the viceroy?

Gran nods in curious agreement with Rackam.

Rackam

Forget the viceroy, did everyone forget about the existence of a whole island? Damn, this is all kinds of screwed up.

They fly toward a destination long since ruined, a reality which sends a chill through the Grandcypher crew.

Anamaria

Anamaria watches their reactions from a shadowy corner of the deck.

Tranquio Island
